Currently.

Years ago on LiveJournal, I used to participate regularly in something similar to "Currently" called "Daily Dose" - I was going to bring Daily Dose to this blog but saw Danielle's post about Currently, which seems more like my style these days.  Can't decide if I'm going to commit to doing this weekly or on a whim!

Loving:  When my husband paints.  He's working on a painting of our son and his favorite toys for a Painting class.  The concept is so adorable and I love watching this painting come together.  My husband & I usually bounce ideas off each other and it really means so much when he uses something I suggested.

Thinking About:  The final design of this blog.  Who knew commissioning someone to design my blog would be so much work - the thought process has been insane!  But I'm actually happy with the way it's coming along and can't wait till it's done and I can finally show it off!

Anticipating:  The birth of our baby!  He's due on April 14th and I can't wait to hold him, smell him, kiss him... I'm getting so excited!

Listening To:  J. Cole / Missy Elliott - Nobody's Perfect I've really taken a liking to J. Cole - This is probably the newest music I've got into in a while, it's depressing what my kids have to listen to these days.

Eating:  I made spaghetti with a side of peas for dinner.  This became a favorite of mine when I was in High School.  I got about $20 a week allowance when I was a teenager (which was a lot in the 90s), most of my friends got nothing.  I can remember pooling all our money, buying groceries and cooking dinner at different friends' houses - Spaghetti & peas was cheap, could feed a bunch of us and yummy.

Wishing:  I could make up my mind on what I want to buy.  On the fence about getting a new DSLR body, film camera or a few lenses.  My husband gave me the heads up to buy "whatever I wanted" a couple months ago and I still can't make up my mind.  Funny cause he's the Gemini!  Not that I haven't been looking... I have carts of stuff on etsy and Amazon and watch lists on eBay.  Maybe subconsciously waiting for Mercury Retrograde to pass... Hurry up April 3rd!

Life as a shorty shouldn't be so rough

Came across this amazing Dr. Seuss inspired Wu-Tang Clan art done by Alex Pardee a few months ago and finally had a chance to print it up.  And now you can too!

Thrift Scores.

I love thrifting.  It started when I was a teenager.  There's nothing like walking into a thrift store and not knowing what you can find.  It's modern day treasure hunting.  If I could go thrifting ( & antiquing ) everyday, I would!  Here's some of my latest finds:

This was the only thing I passed on.  I had no idea a bunch of friends would want it.
Thrifting
This piece was .95 - So happy I decided to pick it up!
Thrift Scores
This original painting was .95 - Thinking about using it in a swap.
Thrift Scores
Another .95 piece - Seen these at Necromance from $26-50!
Thrift Scores
Another .95 piece - Vintage and never opened!  Thinking about sending it out for a swap.
Thrift Scores
4 Clutches for $1.95 each - I went back a week later and all clutches were $4.95 and up!
Thrift Scores
I got this for a swap, sadly it didn't survive the mail system.  Wish I just kept it instead!

The Secret Package.

After a few weeks of unsuccessful attempts at finding our 6 year old Duke a pen pal because he wants mail, we decided to make him a package filled with lots of love and care. This took a lot of thinking on our part... mainly, what types of things would be fun, thoughtful and special to him. This package isn't only because he wants mail but because he's at 190 sight words when he only needed to learn 25 to pass Kindergarten! He's already at 1st Grade level! We are so proud!

We came up with this list:
  • Coins from Mexico & The Philippines - He's been learning about coins & Presidents at school and has one of each coin from the US and a couple from Japan. Since he is part Mexican and Filipino, we knew that these coins would be special and important for him to have.
  • Postcard from Hawaii - He's a huge Toy Story fan. He has been on a kick where he's always asking to visit Hawaii and finally saw Toy Story Hawaiian Vacation. We're thinking of getting the postcard and having Daddy sign it as Woody & Buzz.
  • Chicago Bulls buttons - He loves the Bulls and this would look so cute on one of his hoodies.
  • Plastic Ladybug - He came home from school with a plastic frog that he named Mr. Toy Frog and insists that the frog needs a girlfriend.
  • Statue of Liberty Lego Minifig - Another subject that has come up in school and he loves Lego.
  • Four Leaf Clover - He's been trying to look for one in our yard but no success!
  • A book by his favorite Authors: David Shannon or Jonathan London
We started looking for these items on eBay and etsy but some were so pricey that I decided to enlist some friends on Facebook to help. We also found some other random, fun items while out shopping: Ring Pops and Revell Jet Glider. It's taking time to put together, it's not like we can just walk into Walmart and that's it.

The only "Toy Kit" that was similar to what we're trying to make was found on etsy for $15 by ArtyDidact. I think it's super cute but not personal enough for our son.
P.S. Do not Google: Toy Kit

Have you seen any cute "Toy Kits" out there?
Would you make one for your child(ren)?
