The Donuttery.

We were heading home on Monday after the Taco Bell event and stopped by The Salvation Army Family Store in Huntington Beach.  Didn't find anything and was disgusted by the store actually.  Chris was loading the stroller in the truck and I was standing there watching a couple arguing with their toddler in the next parking lot over when I saw The Donuttery.  I heard about the donut shop from a friend, she raved about their blueberry donuts.  Chris decided to stay with the kids and I walked over to check it out.  I glanced at the store hours sign since it was 8pm and made a mental note that they are open 24 hours.  Good sign.

Opened the door and was bombarded with the sweet smell and visuals of many different donuts.  Blueberry.  Blueberry with frosting.  Glazed Blueberry.  Strawberry.  Strawberry with frosting.  Glazed Strawberry.  Red Velvet.  Apple Crumb.  Peanut Butter & Jelly.

I only had plans on getting 4 donuts but the sweet cashier convinced me to get a dozen.  I got doubles to share with Chris and she threw in a glazed freebie.  As she was swiping my debit card, I glanced in the glass case - there were maple bars with strips of bacon on 'em.  But it was too late, my card was run.

Duke only goes for chocolate donuts so I was surprised he actually tried the blueberry donut.  He loved it.  I loved it too.  Probably my favorite out of all the donuts.  The strawberry one is delicious.  They all are.  The blueberries taste like blueberries and the strawberries taste like strawberries!  It's not too sweet, sugar is just right.  The only one I wasn't a fan of is the red velvet.  Maybe I'm over red velvet.  My Husband loved it.  Said it was his favorite.  We'll be back even if it is a drive.

A dozen was $9 and some change.  The Donuttery also offers sandwiches, bagels and drinks.

Mother's Day

I love Mother's Day! Because I love being a Mom (who wouldn't with 4 handsome, smart and funny boys) & of course this Mother's Day is extra special to me because of the recent birth of our last child.
My husband Chris always, always makes it special for me.  It's not about how much he spends, it's about the thought he puts into planning.  I've told him for years I would rather have paintings, drawings, love notes...

One year I wanted to be at the beach at sunrise and he made it happen.  A couple years were spent gallery hopping and eating delicious food.  Last year we flew into Atlanta, spent the night and then drove to Alabama for my cousin's Wedding.  That trip was super special because my family also flew in and my Grandpa finally got to meet my husband and Duke.

This Mother's Day is going to be low-key.  Omar is still too little to take out on our usual adventures.  Chris & Duke kicked off the weekend by surprising me with cards, cake, flowers and gifts on Friday.  Tonight we watched The Avengers and had In N Out.  It's been the perfect weekend.  Who knows what we'll get into tomorrow!

But the BEST GIFT OF ALL... A painting my Husband did of one of Duke's drawings.
SO AMAZING! I am so in love with it. I can't wait to find a frame for it!

I was honored to be asked by my amiga Ruby of Growing up Blackxican to be part of her #CelebrateMama post!  What is your favorite part of being a Mother?

We wish all of you a very Happy Mother's Day!
Love, The G's!
