I Liked Getting Sick When I Was A Kid #KleenexSWS

When I was growing up, my mom never went for the generic tissues, she had a box of Kleenex everywhere.  There was a box in every bathroom, bedroom and the living room.  Even in her car!  (In her defense, she worked in healthcare).  I was the sickly child in the family and every time I got sick, I would find comfort on the couch with a box of Kleenex at my side.  I loved getting sick when I was a kid because I would get to miss school, my mama's attention, a big bowl of arroz caldo and cup of hot tea.  Sometimes she would rub my back or let me sleep in her bed.  I had it easy!
Now that I have my own kids (including my husband who is a baby when he's sick), the soup of choice is my chicken tortilla soup.  I'm not sure what it is but I can make soup.  The minute any of us are coming down with something, we stock up on orange juice and I get a pot of soup going.  I make sure there's tissues.  We look funny too, I learned from my dad long ago that if you want to get better, you need to wear a scarf and socks.  I used to laugh at the advice when I was a kid but now I swear by it.  Just like my mom passed down family traditions with me, I hope to do the same with my kids!
(I still have my moments where I want to just lay in my mama's bed, I don't think that ever goes away!)

Kleenex has this cool program where you buy specially marked boxes of Kleenex® Brand tissue, and you'll get a code for sending a Kleenex® Brand Care Pack or Kleenex® Brand Share Pack.  I think my mama will be getting a share pack just because!

I always hated being sick. It was the worse. Lol but it sounds like your momma was the best when you were sick.

Thank you for sharing this story. :)

I didn't get sick very often when I was younger, but when I did I could always count on spending the day with my dad and him making me his honey lemon tea with lots of love, hugs and kisses. Now that I'm older I've carried on the honey lemon tea tradition, but don't make it like my dad (almost, but not quite!) and I miss the attention and love. My husband is just like your dad with the scarves, socks etc!

I love Kleenex too. My soup of choice is albondigas. I love to make that when the kids or hubs are sick similar to rice caldo.

Soup is a must have when I'm sick. I still make my mom's chicken soup but these days I add matzo balls and parsnip, my Jewish boyfriend's influence. It's a match made in soup heaven. I will have to keep my eyes peeled for those special marked packs of Kleenex!
