Mourning My Beloved Camera

I am in mourning.
My beloved camera stopped working at Disneyland on Friday, took him to Fullerton Cameras where he was pronounced dead.
We agreed a new one is my best option because I just had him repaired in October 2012.
He lived a good life.

How did they know it was dead? My canon 30D is going on 6 years and could be better, but still works. I remember hearing early on that the camera bodies are just machines, so once they reach like 100,000 shutter clicks, it's on its way out.
